PostHeaderIcon The pact to be not too choosy

While sipping on our non-fat decaf caramel macchiato, Liv and I kept on talking about our current lovelife status which has the words boring and zero written all over it. We kept on asking what is wrong with us? Or are we that really choosy? The time is ticking on us and the bomb of being legitimate old maids is on its final stretch of being detonated.
After so many considerations, we have decided not to be choosy and to jump in the opprotunity to have a boyfriend as soon as it knocks.
I am getting a vibe that it will the year for either of us, it’s good if it will be for the both of us.

PostHeaderIcon I wore black and I pulled it off, I think

A few years back, wearing black to a wedding is taboo. Now, in this ever evolving computer age, everything, as long as it is approriate and does not scream hooker or clown, is acceptable.
With a tight budget, I decided to have my hair and make up done at a neighborhood salon. The salon, based on my assessment, is not among those chains of thrift salons nor those who just pretends to know how to cut hair and style it as well. I used to have my hair rebonding and hair cut done there. Then again, I still have doubts on their skills in terms of hair and make up.
The hair and make up was priced at P550 which I think is pretty reasonable. I kept on texting my cousin whom I trust when it comes to hair, makeup and fashion. Too bad she cannot render her service to me as she is a part of the ntourage and I do not want to burden her anymore.
I was telling her that I hope I will not end up looking like a clown.
I first changed into my LBD and showed the hair and makeup stylists how I want my hair to look like as well as my make up. I was really obessesed with the outcome that I kept on telling them what I want as the session progresses.
While the hair and make up were not done exactly as I want them to be (I was really expecting that), I am kind of satisfied with the out come.
I went to the wedding with much confidence too bad I was not able to stay for the reception as I have my PM duty at the hospital. I managed to snatch some pix on my cell phone and the pix on my cousin’s cam when I was already in my nurse uniform (LOL).

PostHeaderIcon Philly Cheese Steak @ Kenny's

Having seen the best Philadelphia cheese steaks in the US on Food Paradise, I have been obsessing to sink my teeth in Philly’s finest.
Of course economic and healthwise, I cannot travel abroad so I am in search for local version of this mouthwatering treat.
So when I learned about Kenny’s Philly Cheese Steak, I compulsively led my way to a branch near the office on Quezon Ave. cor. Examiner St.
philly-cheese-steakFor P169.00 it is a bit pricey but I just told myself that it is the time of the month to reward myself. It’s pay day!
Another treat is that, they have a promo until May 31st where you could get 50% off the price of the next sandwhich that you will order.
I don’t know if it was really the weather (it was 4:00 p.m.) but as I waited for them to serve my sandwhich (which took about 10 minutes that seemed like eternal) I was sweating so hard. You could hardly feel the a/c.
It is my first time to try this sandwich so I have nothing to compare it to but one thing is for sure, I enjoyed it! I can tell that it was freshly prepared. It is not too salty and it is made in whole wheat bun which makes it more healthy. I wonder why it is not included in their healthy meals selections.

Miss USA 2009 1st runner up Carrie Prejean

Rumor has it that Ms. California has lost the Miss USA title to Ms. North Carolina for one very controversial reason.

Carrie Prejean failed the expectations of the judges, particularly the openly-gay celebrity blogger judge Perez Hilton who personally threw her the question about her opinion on the legalization of gay marriage in California.

21-year old said:

“I think it’s great Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be, between a man and a woman.”
I could not imagine how Perez’ blood pressure suddenly surged after hearing this lest the gay people in that same area or in the homes watching this pageant supported mainly by gay people. Imagine you are a beauty contest hopeful and your entourage (your hair stylist, makeup artist and assistant) is full gay force and you dish them in their face!

First off, duh, since when did California become a country? Or she foresees that she’s gonna be thrown to another country about this “unsolicited opinion”

On the lighter note, she finished the answer with “No offense” but I think many have taken already since she was booed and she has lost the title. But then again, the judges denied that the answer has lost her the crown.

At the end of the day, Ms. California could have set aside the morality issue and focused on the civil rights issue to gain the elusive “world peace”

It is like a job interview, you are there to say what the judges or the interviewer would want to hear. They do not give a damn about your opinion seriously. So I would say, always finish off your sentence with world peace!

One good thing about this young lady is that she stands by her answer (and belief I guess). During her post pageant interview on Today show, she said that she’s never in between. Either you go for or against something.

I will give her that.

Here’s my two cents, morality and religion should never own a place in a beauty pageant. Do not go deeper than world peace.

I thank you!

PostHeaderIcon That thing that Twits!

I am not a techy type of person. While everyone is jumping on the BlackBerry bandwagon, I put my technophobe mask on even if the most powerful man in the world is hooked to it prompting the security service to toughen the security revolving around it. But here is something new that is sweeping the world and it is now starting to pick its followers here in the third world. It’s a bird! A bird that twits and is so techy!

By definition

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Once you have signed up at twitter.com, you shall nominate your mobile phone number where the update or anwer to the question you post or to the question you have decided to be a follower of, you shall be getting instant alerts on the your cell phone. It’s real time but max characters are 160.

Unfortunately, updates via Philippine mobile phone is not yet functional. Well, I was able to have my number verified but I’lll be only able to send messages but not receive updates from Twitter.

I know it’s gonna be fully functional soonish so hang on little bird. I will soar and catch up!

PostHeaderIcon Shopped 'til she dropped

I have planned this… I will shop for my eldest preschooler niece.

I have been noticing that her clothes are a little outdated. I cannot blame her, my sister is really not into fashion.

I tagged my niece along the mall. I really had no plans of getting myself anything except for the spluging on Wendy’s Shrimp sandwich combo with free biggie upsize (Thanks to PayPass!). My 6-year-old niece has a big appetite as mine.

I am so happy that I got her complete wardrobe from head to foot.

I saw how her face glowed when she was trying on the clothes and shoes at the mall and how she was  excited trying them on again at home making a mini fashion show infront of her parens.

Now  she can, sashay along side with her cousins.

PostHeaderIcon The Golden Opulence Sundae

goldenopulencenordA precious as it sounds this after meal treat is more than just a guilty pleasure. It costs $1000! No wonder is it dubbed as the world’s most expensive sundae.

While filling my bucket list of must-try gastromomic delights, I saw this on Travel and Living Channel

It was created to celebrate Serendipity’s 50th Anniversay in 2006. Yeah, 50 = gold!

So what it is made of? Let me break it down for you:

“5 scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23K edible gold leaf, the sundae is drizzled with the world’s most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate, which is from cocoa beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela’s coast. The masterpiece is suffused with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, an exclusive dessert caviar, made of salt-free American Golden caviar, known for its sparkling golden color. It’s sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac. The sundae is served in a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet with an 18K gold spoon to partake in the indulgence served with a petite mother of pearl spoon and topped with a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel.”  (source: www.boingboing.net)

Imagine yourself slipping gold down to your throat while thinking of $1000 that could pay your rent for four months. Would not you feel guilty after?

PostHeaderIcon Urbanista Manila Revisited

I have been away from this site primarily because I had hibernated to focus on my stateboard exam review.

I started the intensive review in February and ended unti I took the exam on August 19.

I am so thankful that it all paid off.

I passed the exam. I got the notice from California Board of Registered Nursing well not to congratulate me but just to inform me that I passed the NCLEX and I have three years to provide them my Social Secuirty Number (SSN) before I could get my license.

Yaiks… I need to have a work permit in the land of milk and honey. Will somebody help me?

PostHeaderIcon Our birthday and the Fashion Emergency

Ha! It’s March 24, 2008. My 31st birthday. I was supposed to name this blog Young Urbanista Manila, but I came to thinking, am I still young?  Well compared to geriatrics I am.

I’m kind of in a bad mood today, my birthday.

I just learned that Google has removed my page rank from my first blog. I set it up for economic reasons and I was just on my first week doing sponsored posts when Goodle slapped by on my birthday.

So when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!

I went in a shop at a local mall here in the developing country. Yeah, I only got P100.00 because payday is not until tomorrow. I had with me my little evil plastic.

I got from the Surplus Shop 3 boardshorts that I’ll be using in our Team Celebration Program  and I also got some cool statement shirts from Soda.

I feel inspired by the statement on the first shirt that’s why I decided to give my new baby (blogsite) that name.
